New at the Daily Pint: Einhorn Spezial Pilsner

We just put on a new German-style pilsner brewed right here in California, and wow, this is one solid pilsner.

It's nice to see authentic German-style beers being brewed nearby.  Since it's brewed locally, it gets here fresh, unlike many of the German-brewed beers that take weeks to arrive from Germany.

Spezial Pilsner is one of 3 beers currently being made by Einhorn Beer Company out of San Luis Obispo.  The brewer, Douglas Martin, lived in Germany for over 20 years, and spent 2 years at the Doemen's Beverage Academy in Munich, one of three brewing academies in Germany.

Doug talks about his beers on the Einhorn website:

They are all-grain classical German styles made with the best raw materials I could find. The Perle & Tettnang hops, the original yeast strains, 100% German malt and a little bit of freedom in thinking all combine to make probably some of the best German style beers available on the Central Coast.

spezial-pilsnerOn the Einhorn Spezial Pilsner:

Einhorn Spezial Pilsner is a North German style, where pilsners are tradionally more bitter than in the rest of the country.  It is a full-bodied, golden-colored craft beer and has 5% ABV.   It contains high-quality aroma hops from the Tettnang region in Germany, a small town near Lake Constance on the Austrian border.  The fruity Perle hops are from the Hallertau region, one of the finest hop growing regions in the world.

Come by and try out a pint of Einhorn Spezial Pilsner, and tell us how you think it compares to our other German selections, like Weihenstephan, Bitburger, or Hofbrau.

Also on tap this weekend, the Racer 5 is back on.

On cask, we just put on Arrogant Bastard with American Oak, and Stone IPA with Amarillo and Chinook.

See you this weekend, and be sure to wish Robyn a happy birthday!

  1. Stopped in the other day and tried the new pilsner – very impressed. Quite malty, lots of flavor. Nice complement to great selection.
